About the Weekly Readings
VolcanoBible.org is proud to continue the legacy started by site founder
Friendly Neighborhood Jesus Freak
in providing these videos every week since 2020. For the Liturgical
Year 2024, the content is no longer a personal dalliance of the founder
but an active ministry.
These videos originated during lockdown in 2020, as a way to provide
some of the familiarity of a church service within the confines of a
self-produced video on YouTube. First
consisting of only a short prayer taken from the Collects of the 1979
(US) Episcopal Church Book of Common Prayer, and weekly readings adapted
from the Revised Common Lectionary with adjustments, since 2022, some
worship music (two hymns per week) has been added. The budgetary limits
of the program have generally necessitated restricting the content to
public domain or freely available resources, hence the exclusive use of
the King James Version for the first run of videos.
In order to extend the reach of the Weekly Scripture Readings, for 2024
we decided to expand the project, first to include a respected
contemporary English translation, and second, potentially to expand into
a Spanish version of the project. To that end, we have contacted
The Lockman Foundation and
obtained permission to use their two most well-respected translations,
one in English and one in Spanish, for future videos.
We are always considering ways we can improve this little project as
well as ways to expand it.
